Beer perfume (EOS) is aimed to attract beer loving dudes and the perfume supposedly helps the planet too. What, Eco-Friendly Beer Perfume perhaps? Apparently so, according to news reports announcing the release of the new beer perfume by Washington perfume company, Sweet Anthem, along with Blue Marble Energy, which is a Seattle based recycling company.

Beer perfume? Really? Are ladies so desperate to get a man that they would actually consider using a beer smelling perfume to attract a guy? Believe it or not, but you can actually buy a 1/2 ounce bottle of this limited edition fragrance “Eos for Her” directly from Blue Marble (bluemarble.net) for just $30. Oh yeah, there is also a Eos for Him too in case you’re interested, but it’s called the “unisex” version.

Eos for Her contains neroli, sandalwood, green tea, and banana; while Eos for Him contains cognac, honeysuckle, white ginger, apricot, and candied fruits. Not only that but the Eos fragrance line is presented in “elegant, square glass bottles with silver metallic caps with roll-on applicators”, and the silver-stamped tags were handmade by local jeweler Carolyn Buss. Ain’t that sweet?!

One of the many ingredients in the perfume is “organic spent brewery grain” from nearby Freemont Brewery. The beer perfume “for her” is described as “a green bright floral, tea-based scent. Very modern and feminine”, while the male or masculine unisex version of the perfume is described as “citrus and cognac with hints of powdery apricot. Equally appropriate for men and women.” It also includes “Propyl Butyrate (bioester), White Ginger, Apricot, Cognac and Honeysuckle.”

News reports say “Seattle’s Blue Marble Energy chemists are cooking up a perfume made from the waste products of a local organic brewery. James Stephens of Blue Marble Energy says the product is a viscous sludge – a mixture of about 50,000 different kinds of bacteria. Black sludge, rancid beer grains, green slimey stuff and it’s all good for the earth and you.” Completely carbon neutral. And…? Does it really smell like beer?

Umm, after reading the description, am I really supposed to say this new perfume sounds lovely and delightful and I’ll rush right out and buy this stuff? I think not, especially after reading King5’s review saying Eos does NOT smell like beer… at all. Well shucks! And here I was thinking I could spritz on a bit of “refined beer sludge” and really spice things up tonight with Grandpa! Dammit!

I was really hoping to tell Allyn Hale about this beer perfume so maybe he’d do a kick-ass review on his Big Beer Blog just for laughs. You Whoooo!!! Allyn!!! Are you up for doing a perfume review that doesn’t smell like beer perhaps? It would be a HOOT! You can even use F-bombs if you wanna. Ha!

No, that would be too simple. Regular, home brewed coffee tastes good to me and Grandpa, but nothing tastes better than when we create our own recipes for spiked coffee. Spiked coffee, in all of its goodness, tastes a lot better than beer ever could.

Grandpa enjoys his crown and coke on occasion too, and we’re not opposed to doing a little wine tasting from time to time either, but neither of us are big drinkers either way. Getting together with friends over the holidays usually includes trying a new brand of wine with dinner, or as an after dinner drink, but I don’t think I’ll ever become accustomed to being a wine drinker.

There’s nothing wrong with drinking wine, if that’s your thing, but I’m more of a mixed drink type person. Margarita’s with Mexican food is an all-time favorite, but offer me a cup of coffee with Baileys Irish Cream, Kahlua or whiskey in it and it’s all good from there on. I’ve seen some spiked coffee recipes online that recommend adding vodka to coffee, but that’s one I haven’t tried. Yet.

Since it’s usually over the holidays that we’ll treat ourselves to a bit of the booze, it’s often disappointing to see the current price of buying Baileys at the liquor store. $45.00 for a bottle of Baileys Irish Cream is ridiculous, so this year we opted to make our own spiked coffee at home.

Make Your Own Spiked Coffee

Making your own spiked coffee is not only easy to do but is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the ready-mix booze at the store, considering it only costs about $20.00 for a large bottle of whiskey that will last us for awhile. I don’t know how much Vodka costs at the liquor store, but I would guess Vodka is probably cheaper than buying Baileys or Kahlua, but I could be wrong since I’ve never bought Vodka before.

Anyway, if you like coffee, you will love spiked coffee. Here is a spiked coffee recipe we have in our collection. I’m providing measurements for each of the ingredients, but feel free to spike your coffee a bit more than the recipe calls for if you’re so inclined. If you like the taste of Crème de Menthe, that’s another ingredient sometimes included in spiked coffee recipes, but I say no thanks to that idea. Crème de Menthe has a disgusting taste, in my opinion.

Brazilian Coffee – Recipe
3/4 oz Coffee Liqueur
3/4 oz Brandy
3/4 oz Orange Liqueur
Fill with hot Black Coffee
Top with Whipped Cream
Sprinkle Brown Sugar on top (optional)

As a matter of fact, I’m drinking a cup of spiked coffee as I write this. All I did was pour a cup of hot coffee and then I added 2-3 tablespoons of our favorite coffee creamer (International Delight French Vanilla), then add about 2 tablespoons of whiskey and stir. Some people like their spiked coffee a little more spiked than I do.

Note: I don’t know your thoughts on the difference between instant coffee and home brewed coffee, but there is no way I would even consider drinking instant, let alone make spiked coffee using instant coffee granules etc. Why would you want to ruin a good tasting recipe with instant coffee anyway?

One more thing – I don’t like the taste of whiskey by itself, so if I go much heavier on the whiskey than that, all I taste is the whiskey. How anyone can stand the taste of Scotch, Whiskey or Vodka straight out of the bottle I’ll never understand. Ick.

If you were asked, “What is the best beer in the world?”, what brand of beer would you choose as being the best tasting beer? Is your favorite beer an imported or domestic brand? Do you like bottled beer, draft or canned beer? Do you know how many different kinds of beer there are and how each is rated? Have you ever searched online for reviews and ratings about a certain kind of beer you haven’t tasted or tried yet?

You don’t have to attend a beer tasting party just to find out what beers are amongst the best in the U.S. or worldwide, or which are the worst beers and not worth spending your money on. If you want to know what the world’s best beers are, just head over to Allyn Hane’s beer blog at the Big Beer Blog to get Allyn’s opinions about different beers on the market, and watch the accompanying videos. Heck, I’d never even heard of India Pale Ale until I found Allyn’s beer reviews blog.

I admit that anytime I’m in the mood for a good beer, which is usually when we’re at a Mexican restaurant having dinner, I opt for one of the cheap beers that is on sale during Happy Hour. I usually prefer to drink beer straight from the bottle, since I’m not a “girly-girl” kind of girl, but will sometimes order beer on draft if the price of bottled beer doesn’t suit me. I have also never gotten drunk a day in my life or ever “had too many“, because I don‘t ever want to risk developing a drinking problem, and never will.

Bottled Beer vs. Draft Beer

I don’t know why there seems to be such a big difference between bottled beer and draft beer as far as taste is concerned, but bottled beer tastes better than draft in my opinion, and I’m not too keen on canned beer either. Beer is definitely an acquired taste, and I highly doubt I will ever get to the point of being interested in drinking any of the so-called “heartier” beers, which look like mud to me.

I’m not a wine drinker at all, and I couldn’t tell you the first thing about what wine tastes better than another, but I’ll order a Margarita or a Mudslide before I’d order a glass of wine. Grandpa occasionally likes to drink Crown and Coke, always in moderation, and sometimes enjoys drinking a beer or two in social settings. Add some Baileys Irish Cream to a hot cup of coffee and I’m all set!

Since I don’t know much about the different types of beer on the market, more often than not I end up drinking a Miller, Bud, Corona or Coors brand because I’m already familiar with it, in the “light” variety of course. I’m not sure that we even qualify as being “social drinkers”, since it’s only on very rare occasions that either of us even think about buying or ordering alcoholic beverages, but Allyn Hane’s beer reviews blog answers some of the questions I’ve had about beer.

Beer Pong Game Tables

I wonder if Allyn has ever participated in a beer pong drinking party, perhaps during his college days, since he loves beer so much? It seems the beer pong game, also known as Beirut, is a very popular drinking game for college kids. Notice I said beer pong, NOT beer bong – which has to do with drinking too but a different idea altogether.

I don’t know how to play beer pong myself, nor do I have any interest in buying any beer pong products that are for sale, but my understanding of the game is that players throw a pin-pong ball across a table in hopes of landing the ball in a cup of beer on the other end. I don’t know how the winner of the game is decided either, but beer pong has apparently been around for a very long time and won’t be going away any time soon.

There are rules and regulations to playing beer pong, just like with any other kind of game, and there people who are so fascinated with the beer pong game that players make their own homemade, custom beer pong tables with some pretty impressive design ideas. From what I’ve heard, the tables used to play beer pong are folding tables, which makes them quite portable and easy to carry around from place to place.

There’s even a beer pong tournament called the World Series of Beer Pong scheduled for January 2010 in Las Vegas, with a winning payout for the best beer pong player of $50,000. No wonder so many beer pong players are searching for cheap beer pong tables or are trying to learn how to build a beer pong table themselves rather than having to buy an expensive, ready-made table to practice their game techniques.
